Energy efficiency interventions in Sicilian regional museums

DATE: April 2022 – current

PROJECT: Energy efficiency interventions in Sicilian regional museums

CLIENT: Gemmo S.P.A.

BUDGET AMOUNT: 4.593.781,38€

SECTOR: Energy efficiency

The WeDB Team completed the executive projects in synergy with Gemmo S.p.A. as part of the Concession for the efficiency upgrading of 90 sites of the Cultural Heritage of the Sicilian Region.

The Energy efficiency interventions involved lighting design, thermo-technical design, photovoltaic system design, energy response efficiency of the building envelope. Special attention was paid to the design of Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS).

The Lighting Design aimed to reduce operating costs and increase energy efficiency by replacing existing light sources with new high-efficiency light sources and LED technology.

The design of the thermo-technical system included extraordinary maintenance or replacement work on existing systems.

The design of the photovoltaic system provided for different types of applications based on the location. Integrated systems on pitched roofs, systems on flat roofs with the use of ballasts or BIVP (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) i.e., an impermeable and flexible photovoltaic module, were designed.

The executive design aimed to achieve energy savings through energy retrofitting interventions on the building envelope, preserving and not compromising the historical and aesthetic value of the building.
